The Song Thrush painting illustrates a bird that is aptly named, its loud rich song can last for several minutes. Its upper parts are warm brown, while the under parts are streaked with lines of clear spots on a pale-orange breast.
It inhabits woodland and copses, hedgerows, parks, gardens and anywhere with suitable thickets or undergrowth near to ground vegetation.
It has a special taste for snails, the shells of which it smashes against a stone to get at the contents. Also it takes snails and slugs as well as insects and their larvae, ants, spiders and much fruit and berries in season.
This is an original watercolour Song Thrush painting on Fabriano artistico paper. It is window mounted on ivory, size 30 x 40 cms when mounted.
