GREENFINCH
The Greenfinch painting illustrates a member of the finch family, the male of which is a distinctive variety of greens with a bold yellow flash on the wings and tail, noticeably visible in flight. The bill is wedge-shaped and the black tipped tail is deeply forked. The female is similar but much duller.
Greenfinches flock in winter with other finches, though they also form exclusive flocks, especially to roost. The voice has an unpleasant nasal characteristic in spring and a song of musical twitterings.
The greenfinch habitat is woodlands, parks, gardens and orchards and among young conifer plantations. It feeds mainly on seeds of weeds, but also cereals, fruit and berries with insects and spiders fed to the young.
This is an original greenfinch painting on Fabriano artistico paper. It is window mounted on ivory, size 30 x 40 cms when mounted.
